Proposed Washington Carbon Tax is The Wrong Approach: 5-Part Series

Hitting Farmers and Families Hardest

Carbon Tax Burdens Washington Farmers

Our state’s most vulnerable residents and our agricultural industry will take the hardest blows if Governor Inslee’s latest push for a Washington State carbon tax is adopted.

Senate Bill 6230 passed the Senate Ways and Means Committee earlier this month, potentially making Washington the first state to impose a tax on carbon emissions. Some would view this as a milestone accomplishment, “marking the way” as Inslee says, for other states to follow in combatting what he describes as the existential threat climate change poses. Unfortunately, the bill, as written, will have little impact on climate change and will inflict potentially devastating burdens to residents, our rural communities and our farmers.
